About the project: Located on a steep site in San Luis Obispo, this project organizes the landscape into a series of clean, functional terraces. Custom concrete stairs anchors the design, integrating a linear concrete water feature that introduces movement and sound along the primary circulation path. At the top, a raised lounge and spa create a private destination with framed views. Planting draws from a Mediterranean and xeriscape approach, featuring sculptural succulents, cacti, and drought-tolerant grasses that thrive in the Central Coast climate. Composed layers of texture and form soften the hardscape while minimizing water use and long-term maintenance. The result is a cohesive outdoor environment where architecture and landscape operate as one, transforming a challenging grade into an immersive and livable retreat.
