9/16/2026 0 Comments Why We Use Steel EdgingSteel edging is one of those landscape details that most people may never consciously notice And that is often the point. A thin steel edge can quietly organize a landscape without becoming a feature itself.
1. It creates clean transitions. Steel can create a precise separation between gravel, decomposed granite, lawn, mulch, and planting. 2. It allows planting to remain the focus. Unlike a larger curb or border, steel can nearly disappear visually. This lets the textures and forms around it take priority. 3. It works with curves and straight lines. Steel can follow a crisp architectural geometry or create a smooth, sweeping garden edge, making it useful across very different landscape styles. 4. Weathering can add character. Depending on the type and finish, steel can develop a natural patina over time. That change can work particularly well alongside stone, grasses, and other organic materials. 5. Small details create larger order. A landscape might contain dozens of transitions between materials. When those transitions are handled consistently, the entire project tends to feel calmer and more intentional. Good detailing doesn't always need to announce itself. Sometimes a quarter inch of steel is doing more for a landscape than anyone realizes.
